Android in the Car - What Do You Think?

Sure you can connect your phone to your car....But, what about having an Android native system in the vehicle without needing a phone? What do you think about that? According to a recent article, Google is aiming to go straight into the car.

"If successful, Android would become the standard system powering a car's entertainment and navigation features, solidifying Google's position in a new market where it is competing with arch-rival Apple Inc. Google could also potentially access the valuable trove of data collected by a vehicle."

I believe this news was announced quite a while ago?
Android Auto and the Open Automotive Alliance are both 6-12 months old and not much has taken place unfortunately.
I met the vendor who created the QNX demo car that was fairly incredible, but even that is never coming to market properly.

Parrot also made an Android deck that connected to your car, but was also native Android on it's own - didn't sell all that well, but was a great head unit.
