    Is social played-out yet?

I see social engagement up. But maybe that's just with me, and maybe I just have overly socially active friends and colleagues. Twitter is OK for local business if you're in a major metropolitan area. I find little use for it personally--never have.

    New domain extensions

But how sticky is .anythingbutcom? :D Domains are never all gone. It just takes a little brainstorming, and luck.

    New domain extensions

I think they are just a waste of money for marketing value. Protecting your brand name, I get. I have used two-letter domains, but only as a shortner.

    Look for some guinea pigs...

Hello Refreshers! I'm looking for trainers with video content to help beta test a new video learning Website I'm currently working on. It's still a few months out from launch, and need some strong content to test out the functionality. The site is much like Udemy.com in concept, and I plan to...

Social Media Dashboards, In your opinion which is the best to use?

Hootsuite Pro is OK, but I second on Sprout. Although I really like using PostPlanner for branded posts on FB, and some of the other features.

The question is to social media or not to what is your answer

Age isn't necessarily an issue. Even old people use social media. But you do have to evaluate is the equity worth the time away from something else that has proven to generate leads and business. Also, what are your competitors doing, and are they successful? There is no half way effort in...

The question is to social media or not to what is your answer

It's like any other digital property, you need to promote it within your customer base; like on your Website, on business cards, stationary, in-store displays, email signatures, your commercials, print ads and so on ... You'll have to do some research on how dealers are using social media, and...

    Back in the business

Oh goodness, I'm back in the automotive vendor business as the Marketing _______ (no official title yet) for Members Only Automotive. A lot of work ahead of me, and hopefully you'll see some ads here in the months to come.

    uHAPS Media

I can see how this would translate well for food brands, but not automotive. Maybe as a push when the new models are out, but not a year-round effort.

    What is an appropriate "reward"

That's why you need to keep it flexible to add your own perks. I don't think you should give anything away for free. But if you can share a check-in on Facebook, maybe get service tokens that are good for discounts on a service bill. Or tokens for getting oil changes or a car wash at the...

    What is an appropriate "reward"

I'm assuming you talking about the app you're researching? I would make it flexible, where a dealer could choose rewards or service tokens towards services. Or even push double rewards for a month, or week or more. Put a gamification spin on it.

    Smartphone Marketing

Maybe if it pulled in local deals--but there's enough sites and apps that do that, and that's not a standalone added value that a dealership could offer. Not that I'm a automotive expert, but service reminders would even be redundant to a lot of tools that dealers already have in place.

    Smartphone Marketing

I agree that the narrow window of opportunity and a long buying cycle doesn't make sense for a dealer to invest in a dedicated app. Maybe a service appointment app that takes you through the service process from appointment, drop-off to pick-up?

    Smartphone Marketing

No, but a pretty serious family situation that needed my immediate attention drug me offline for almost two months. Luckily, everything turned out a lot better than expected. I had thought I had emailed you directly beforehand ... And addressed the situation a few months back here, I think...

    Smartphone Marketing

You may want to be more clear. No one is going to download an app just to be marketed too.

Social Media - Keep In House Or Contract Outside???

Agreed. It's all about conveying your culture and attitude. Of course if your dealership has more "attitude" than a defined culture, outsourcing may be a "solution." But that can be true for any business type.

Social Media - Keep In House Or Contract Outside???

I don't know if I'd call it tedious work. It is time consuming, takes some strategic thought and requires a service attitude. Your social media efforts should be more about building your local dealership brand (what can I expect from buy X brand from you) with at least an equal amount of...
