At the risk of getting a serious smack-down from the Forum Police for raising this topic again....

Anybody see any similarities with the whole Occupy Movement and some recent Gen Y discussions? Specifically, the sense of entitlement that was described a few times on these pages...

(Just light banter here... not trying to fire anybody up!) :)

I was told that I am entitled to be anything I want to be! :)
I was so good at every sport I played , I got a trophy even when I lost!
Mine! Mine!
haha

Yes, My name is Blake, and I am entitled to everything. I'll admit that I'm a typical gen Y. My GSM's nickname for me is "Beatdown" because that's how he feels whenever I approach the desk when I'm told no on something I want.

But would you rather have a pansy working for you? Or someone who feels that they can and should accomplish anything? Just a thought.

I don't think you are a typical anything, my Lad! Quite impressive, actually... you do your generation proud!

The Occupy movement is a cause that has died without leadership. All the adults have left because it turned into Bill Murray's Ground Hog Day

What your left with are socialist wanna-bes who had nothing going on prior to Occupy and will have nothing going on after Occupy.

Gen Y here and I'm not fan of the movement. You are right Joe, but it will stay in the memory of many young people the next time something similiar arises. Common public will be more inclined to protest, riot, etc at first hint of "unfairness". It's not very monumental what they're doing, it is however monumental that they're at least doing it.

I wasn't aware that the movement had moved in to Dallas, until yesterday. I was reading the local website and they all seemed to say the same thing, "We want a bigger piece of the pie". Is this "pie thing' something that they teach in public school? They need to understand that there ain't no pie. If Bill Gates makes another billion, this year, it has nothing to do with what the "99%" can make.

On this website, there are a bunch of students complaining about their student loans. I'm supposed to feel sorry for some idiot that financed 100% of their tuition, books and living expenses, for four years, in order to get a degree in philosophy? What happened to working your way through school? I did it.

This. And you can add partying + alcohol to that list as well.

I'm currently working my way through school, 7AM-7PM at the dealership and then I go home, grab a quick bite to eat and then head to class from 8 PM to 9:25 PM and then study from about 9:45-11:00pm. This is Monday-Friday. Guess what? I have $0 in student loan debt, zip, notta, none.

Yes, i am only 20 and I feel 45, but it can be done. It's a matter of determination, sweat and living within my means. I am on path for a great paying career with or without my degree, but WITH it i can always request more of my favorite thing: $$$$$

Jake,

I was a fan of the movement. Washington needs an ass woopin' bad. I was hoping something would blossom, but...

AMEN

Its VERY unfortunate what has been happening in education though....you have to go to school, but in some cases these kids get buried so bad that it doesn't matter what they do they will never get out from behind the 8 ball

I would have been a potential fan of the movement if they would have gotten some kind of focus and direction. Unfortunately, if they really want to solve problems, they should be occupying DC. You won't see them doing that though.

Reference the recent insider trading and conflict-of-interest allegations against Nancy Pelosi and others. These are the ones keeping 99% of us down -- with oppressive taxes, regulations that make starting and continuing businesses difficult, etc.
