I came across a new service that allows people to enter information such as make, model, year, trim, and condition of the car to get trade-in or cash values of their used cars from local dealers. Dealers need to provide a firm offer based on the information provided. Of course, if the car owner provides inaccurate information, the quote needs to be revised.

What's your opinion on this new service?

How useful is this service to you? Would you use this service?

What would make this service attractive/useful to you?

How much are you willing to pay? A monthly fee? A % of transaction fee of successful transaction? A flat fee per transaction? Or a combination?

It has been several years since I used Trade-in marketplace. It was a very effective tool when it was used as part of the process. At the time, the appraisals tended to be low but because AutoTrader is a trusted name, customers trusted the values. If the values were higher, AutoTrader would purchase the vehicle. At another store, it was used by the new car manager as a tool to bump the Used Car Manager. Salespeople, at that store, believed the customers and you could never give enough for the trade.

The market is set by the internet. You can always show the customer what their trade is bringing and then explain what their car needs in reconditioning, deducting for mileage, color, and profit.
