Dealerships have many options available to them as they seek to grow their online presence. In fact, they might almost have too many options; certainly, it can be difficult to determine which channels offer the best return on investment.

Take, for example, the long-running debate over content marketing vs. PPC. Both disciplines offer some pros and some cons, but which one makes the most sense for your dealership?

Here’s a brief rundown of what dealers can expect from each.

I would say they're two different sides of the same coin. Content marketing in automotive retail is really about telling the story of the store, its place in the local community (aka the addressable market) and building domain expertise both about the actual product (brand) and the area of selling cars (the business of being a dealership).

PPC is about a call to action: Buy this car. Look at this model. Schedule service.

Naturally, the goal is to sell cars, but each of these tactics targets a different point of entry into the sales funnel.

PPC is better. We are working with people who are short of time for longreads and "interesting" fact/stories/etc
