Franchise vs. Privately owned

Does anyone know the statistics about whether a consumer is more willing to buy from a franchised dealership vs. one that is privately owned?

I haven't heard of any statistics in this area. I do know that people buy from who they like and trust. Marketing can get someone to a dealership and typically the franchised dealers have more money to play with in advertising.
