What are your thoughts on the update to Facebook's reviews? Does this make it easier for fallacious claims? Or does this update benefit dealers because Recommendations are more trackable?

Just for the sake of conversation, here's a quick breakdown of the update and my thoughts on it:

Ratings are now Recommendations.

When a user asks for Recommendations from their network, Facebook will add responses that tag a business to its Facebook page — unless they limit the audience to “Friends Only.” That means car shoppers no longer have to come to your page to make public comments that other users will see.

Pages will eventually receive a rating, which Facebook states is based on several sources like on-page reviews and shared Recommendations. Only pages that allow Recommendations will show a rating, and a page won’t have a rating until it’s received an unspecified number of Recommendations.

The Benefits of Facebook Recommendations
Facebook Recommendations make building a positive rapport with your local buyers even more powerful. That’s because Recommendations have benefits that standard reviews don’t:
  • They have a far greater reach.

  • They allow photos to be posted.

  • They allow tags to be used.

Potential prospects will see what their most trusted sources — their friends — have to say about your dealership. The more you can cultivate positive relationships, the more effectively your Facebook page will help create leads.

In fact, you’ll be better equipped to monitor and manage communications, both positive and negative, that you otherwise wouldn’t know were happening — things that even social media tools can’t pick up. This capability is important because users are often talking about brands, which Facebook sees as an opportunity to connect them with your business and your page more easily.
