The Used Car Window Sticker.

Seriously - what for?..It's 2012. What purpose does the used car window sticker even have?

Half the of the shit listed is inaccurate. Some dealers post price (over market) and some list none. The options are usually generic since the sticker is too often printed before the vehicle is touched by the inventory manager or used car manager in your inventory management software (i.e HomeNet, vAuto, eBiz).

My thought is to update the window sticker for 2012. Let's use this real-estate for call to actions and mobile engagement.

I'm thinking InfoGraphic. The WindofoGraphic... Something artsy and different. Something that sticks out.

What NEEDS to be on the window sticker?
What can be omitted because we it's a waste to even have on there?
Is it really time for QR?

I want the window stick to engage the customer and drive them to our mobile site while standing there on the lot during a mid day Sunday. I want them to take action while increasing my chances of a mobile conversion.

Call to action example "For our Latest Marked Down Price visit us on our mobile phone at www.abcdealer.com/mobi OR scan the QR code to the right"

For more information on our Nissan One to One rewards and what it means for you - Scan this QR code or visit www.abcdealer.com/mobi/onetoone - landing the customer on a video all about One to One benefits.

I'm picturing 3 to 4 points of engagement using either a QR or directing he customer to a mobile landing page.

More ideas ideas ideas....

What would you do to your 2012 WindofoGraphic?

Jeff, we're you with me that time Polk brought-up the possibility of hanging a "Pad-Like" device on the window that could be remotely updated?

I disagree with one thing you said: if someone is on our lot looking at the sticker, I don't want to drive him/her to our mobile sight. I want to drive them in the door to a salesperson. Unless it's after hours.... Back to the dynamic sticker discussion :)

I live in Texas and when I was in the market for a SUV, I walked my local dealer lots on Sunday when I knew they were closed. Why? I didn't want to speak with a salesperson until i found the car I wanted.

With the right mobile site, you can show that "lot shopper" other similar vehicles and specials they might not have a chance to see by walking around.

I agree 110% with Jeff. Give them QR codes, tiny urls or whatever. If they find the right car, they just might be interested enough to submit a lead through their mobile device too ;)

On the lot then submit a lead? Sounds bass ackwards to me. Watching too many Cars.com commercials :)

However, the point is that with dynamic "stickers," you can have one during the day, and one during the night/weekends. Interesting concept.

My notion on dynamic stickers: somebody's going to have to make a million of them to make it remotely plausible. Even a 2.8" color screen runs $32 in quantity (source: Adafruit), then you have to figure out power, packaging, getting the data on that display, making it switch between day mode and night mode, and having it last on the lot in the presence of heat, cold, and That Salesman. (Everyone has one, right?)

Trust me, nobody wants to get rid of printed window stickers more than me...but I don't know if dynamically-updating displays like this are ready yet for a big manufacturer, and I would bet dollars do donuts they're not ready for a guy at a dealership with a soldering iron and a dream.

The design needs to better, but forget QR codes. 15 year old technology that hasn't gained a real foothold in the US? I'm guessing if it hasn't by now, it won't. Give me Augmented Reality. I don't know if it will be Blippar or Layar, or someone else completely. But think about the possibilities!

Hey -- Yago's back! Woo-hoo! :)

I went out--fight a couple hyenas by hand--and prepare myself for hand-to-hand combat for the next time I don't agree with someone in Dealer Refresh.

I'm also activelly taking clases in NY street talk therefore preparing myself for any complains I may get from that area during the slow sales winter months.

Augmented Reality is sweet. I had seem some cool demos a few years ago when BlackBerry was showing it off as a projected feature in their BBM. Who knows if that ever happened. From what I hear is did but not sure how well it works.

I too have never been completely sold on QR. I will say since getting the new iPhone I have used it a few more time than I ever had before. And I was actually able to get to work. Something that was a real challenge on my older BB.

For the time being - QR is the only wide spread option. This is also why I would include a call to action asking the customer to visit a short URL as well.

Maybe a window stick that's 1 big QR code. LOL
