Will this replace their CDK Connected Store offering?

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., June 02, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CDK Global, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDK), a leading retail automotive technology company, today completed the acquisition of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Roadster, Inc. (“Roadster”), a digital sales platform that modernizes the way consumers buy vehicles and the process in which dealers sell them. The integration of Roadster assets and capabilities positions CDK to bring the first fully integrated, end-to-end retail solution to the automotive market and deliver on the promise of Modern Retailing.

The solution will help franchise automotive dealers compete with—and exceed the capabilities of—digital-first used vehicle marketplaces that have expanded rapidly in the past year. It will enable dealers to sell new and used vehicles completely online, while also giving consumers the option to begin and end the vehicle-buying process anywhere they choose—online or in-store.

We have Roadster at our store and it's taken a heap of work to get it working the right way (mostly on the process and personnel side). Now I'm left with the question of what this means for our business. All the folks I know with CDK were mostly at GM stores and they fled CDK like rats from a ship once they had the option to choose another site provider. So I can't say I'm very psyched about this news

That said, Brian Pasch was spot on with his prediction that we'd start to see consolidation of service providers in the DR/CRM/DMS spaces this year. Let the games begin.

Which of these 3 will be acquired next?

Pretty sure the Darwin deal is eminent. Different motivations than CDK buying Roadster in my opinion. Different product focus and MUCH larger client count. That might be a monumental number after the multiplier Roadster is rumored to have gotten:eek3:

Then I'm going to predict Reynolds and Reynolds is going to make a purchase. Modal, AutoFI, Gubagoo, CarNow… hmmmm…

Modal is tight with Honda. AutoFI is tight with Ford. With Toyota's launch of a digital retail solution and FCA's push of ORE (something is up there) it isn't infeasible to see more OEMs feeling pressured to become technology companies too.

That leaves Gubagoo or CarNow for ReyRey to grab. Knowing the leadership personalities of those two companies, my money is on Gubagoo going to ReyRey.

My question is who buys CarNow? They're not geographically far from CarGurus.
