Some dealers are talking on LinkedIn about a widespread disappearance of listings from Google Business Profiles.

It could be the result of Google dropping support for certain structured data schema -- not just in autos -- in order to simplify search results.

It's also speculated it's a grab for more ad money.

Google just quietly killed the 'Vehicle Listing' schema.

For years, dealers could rely on Google crawling their websites and automatically showing vehicles under their Google Business Profile which got them free exposure, easy leads.

That’s ending.

Google says it’s about ‘simplifying search,’ but let’s be honest: this pushes more dealers into paid ads, vehicle feeds, and Google's own monetized ecosystem.

If you're a dealership relying only on organic listings, you're about to feel it. Time to adapt: product feeds, better websites, stronger SEO, and owning your customer relationships.
  1. Check GBP:
Confirm if your inventory is still showing under your Google Business Profile.
  2. Set Up Product Feeds:
Dealers need to set up a feed using Google Vehicle Ads or Merchant Center to get inventory visibility back.
  3. Audit Website Schema:
Remove or update deprecated schema (VehicleListing) to Product Schema to prevent errors in Google Search Console.
  4. Focus on Landing Pages:
Since structured data won't help individual listings as much, double down on SEO for category and landing pages (e.g., "Used Honda Civic in [city]").
  5. Diversify Traffic:
Invest in other channels like social, marketplaces, and email to reduce dependence on Google.

You can see the article here its from SearchEngineLand but Google dropped support for several structured data markup elements and one of those was the Vehicle Listing.

Greg - I noticed our vehicles dropped off some of our Google business profiles about a month ago. The fix for us was just to go into the profile admin page, click on "Vehicle Listings", and then click a toggle switch that read "Display Vehicle Listings". We haven't had any problems since.

Yeah we are a vehicle listings partner as well and this is the Vehicle Impressions graph...not good. A couple of months ago they did a broad sweep of reviews too and wiped out a LOT of good reviews.

I'm wondering if this is along those same lines. They also just released the June Core update, maybe it was in preparation for that as well.

But yeah it's been a growing issue the past few months (as you can see) and they say "they are working on it"...

Someone submitted support ticket if you want to follow along there as well: https://support.google.com/business...earch-maps-gbp-business-manager-account?hl=en

We also noticed quite a few of our dealer customers where their Cars for sale listing have disappeared. I'm getting conflicting information from Google of whether they're discontinuing Cars for Sale or not.

I want to share an alternative way to spot light some vehicles on your Google Business Profile is through the updates section. It's not recommended to list your entire inventory there but you can easily post up 10-15 vehicles to showcase some of your inventory just like parking 10-15 cars in front of your store front. These listings gets hundreds of views within a few days. You can also post vehicle walk around videos to the updates section. Here's an example: Carson City Toyota

If you'd like to know how to automated these postings, i.e. replace a vehicle automatically when it's sold to maintain 10-15 vehicles or how to upload one with a video automatically let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Hadn't heard about phase out until I seen this post. Been trying for 2 months to sign up for partner portal vehicle lists but form doesn't work. Support says it is down and their specialist are working to restore it. But I thought they were getting rid of it so they could drive us to paid list ads and increase their profits.

I would be interested in doing this on my GBP.

This is not a phase out of Cars For Sale. This is a phase out of the Vehicle Listings structured data type. The structured data type was a data structure Google created for dealership website vendors to easily allow the Google crawler to get your inventory directly from your website with no feed required. None of the major website vendors adopted this structured data, so Google is deprecating. Huge miss by the industry in my opinion.
