QR Codes - In or Out?

We added them to our window decals we printed internally a number of years ago.
Was before iphone camera app could scan on its own and most were bewildered what they even were unless you lived in Asia.
Moved away from that and instead people text in the stock number which returns all the info/url etc.
Beauty of that is we actually know who they are and can become a lead.
How does the text the stock number work for you? Is there a specific program that you use to accomplish this?

We have a DB of our online inventory.
We use a third party API to provide the local number and developed inhouse how we treat the incoming message.
Show number on decal on vehicle
Our provided number is specific to stock number lookup
Message comes in with stock number "#U-33456
We strip non alpha numeric
Search DB for matching stock number
Return the info while capturing the phone number sending it to us and the stock number.
Push it into our leads system via ADF

Key is having access online to your DB of inventory
The rest is pretty straightforward to be honest

Would be a straightfoward 3rd party application if someone ever took it to the masses.

Prefer it to anonymous QR code links.

Are you paying for a phone number attached to every vehicle on the lot, every month?
No its one generic phone number. So in our case the cost is $1 per month for local number, plus useage which of course is infinitely cheap. Something like .001 cent per message. Additionally if you simply call the number it rings through to the store and is recorded

Very slick. It's amazing what you can do with a static identifier like a number or email address.

How long has DealerRefresh been talking about how to use them in dealerships?
Oh right - since April 4th, 2011 - almost 13 years!

We invited David Troup, better known as " @The QR Code Guy ," to help us honor this decade-late topic. QR Codes are on the table. All solutions and implementations are up for discussion. Bring your ideas and questions for live feedback!

Harvesting and Cultivating stood out to me. You nailed it.

"they realize that its just a computer engaging with them...but they love it"

This mirrors the feedback we've gathered from consumers telling us the public is ready for omnipresent AI interactions. Chat bots don't suck any more. They don't need to live only in HTTP. QR codes are a great way to direct them straight to their preferred channel.

From a Forrester study we did..

I can also confirm that your low unsubscribe rate is a big tell. At Podium, I constantly had dealers afraid to tarnish a "coveted" channel like SMS...as if its purely reserved for friends/family and not business. Use the channel without tarnishing it. Give them an intelligent, conversational experience instead of one-way transactional BS. You will far surpass tracking the channel's great read rate and see how well it breeds conversations that build high lifetime value customers.
