AI phone agents are increasingly used in car dealerships because they ensure 24/7 call coverage, faster response times, and fewer missed leads. Unlike human receptionists who can only handle one call at a time, AI can answer multiple calls instantly, qualify leads, and book appointments without delays.
While humans are still important for complex or high-value interactions, AI is far more efficient for handling routine calls, after-hours inquiries, and lead capture. The best results come from a hybrid approach—AI handles speed and volume, while humans focus on closing and relationship building.

Spot on. With that being said, I’d love to throw a question out there to play devil’s advocate.

I’m from the "old school" generation—I truly believe in customer service, relationship building, and the power of repeat and referral business. I want to believe relationships still matter. But looking at the market today, does the modern customer actually care about having a relationship with a car dealer?

COVID-19 accelerated a massive shift toward isolation, and the incoming generation of buyers is overwhelmingly introverted. They don't want a long-winded chat; they want convenience.

If you give a modern buyer a choice, what do they actually pick?

  • Option A: The traditional route. A human takes over, smiles, says they’ll call you right back, but forgets to follow up. Then you spend 5 grueling hours sitting in a showroom.
  • Option B: An AI that answers every question instantly with zero guesswork, never lies, follows up flawlessly, and handles the logistics. The customer pulls up, takes a test drive, texts the AI their questions from the road, reviews the numbers with a finance AI, e-signs, and drives away in under an hour. It’s a drive-thru experience, not an all-afternoon hostage situation.
When AI doesn't guess, doesn't mislead, and operates with absolute efficiency, what value does a traditional car salesman actually bring to the table that AI couldn't replicate in a better way? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
