Another Round of Updates

Google announced that there was going to be a several week roll out of a new update, which isn't unique, but the early indicators suggest that this one is going to be a big one. The first big day of this update had some searches in the automotive realm have completely different results on the first page. Dr. Pete from Moz (Formerly SEOMoz) was the first to release their findings: Early Look at Google's June 25 Algo Update - Moz

The biggest things to note are that exact match domains, and partial match domains saw a dramatic decrease in page one presence. Google has been targeting exact match domain spam for a while, so this isn't a surprise. Brand signals, which tie into social signals, have been gaining a lot of traction because of it.

Since that first day, though, we've had several other days with higher Mozcasts (MozCast - The Google Algorithm Weather Report). The Mozcast is basically the amount of fluctuation in the various searches that Moz monitors. That means that things are really volatile out there, so expect some ranking fluctuations.

This update is most likely a Panda update, which targets poor quality and duplicate content. Since automotive websites are riddled with duplicate content I would definitely encourage you to monitor it. The biggest case for this is all the VDP's. If you have four black 2013 Honda Civic LX on your lot, then you probably have almost identical VDP's for all of them.

So, anyone see any fluctuations in their rankings? I've had a couple bounce a round a bit, but are pretty much still where they are supposed to be.

Been watching everything carefully.
One of our stores lost their rank for Ontario Toyota, but other than that it barely fluctuated.. so far.
Will be keeping an eye on it - thanks for the heads up.
