I am a used car wholesaler with 36 years of experience in the collision repair field. At dealer school I met a guy who goes to auctions and buys for other dealers. He was going to help me get my foot in the door, but I cannot get ahold of him. Does anyone know how I can tap into that as I am perfect for that situation (can tell if a car has been repaired, painted, has frame damage or had frame repair done). Basically I am a walking car fax. Any input/ help would be appreciated. Thanks

That'sa very tough position to seek without any sort of connection or local reputation. It isn't just about understanding the mechanical/cosmetic condition of a vehicle. It's more so about understanding market trends, depreciation vs msrp, supply and demand, and most importantly being able to look at any car and identify optional vs base equipment.

A collision repair veteran with 36 years of experience seeks guidance on breaking into used car wholesaling and auction buying in Southern California, leveraging his expertise in identifying hidden damage and repair history. A respondent cautions that success in this field requires far more than technical inspection skills—it demands deep knowledge of market trends, pricing dynamics, equipment specifications, and supply-and-demand factors that are difficult to develop without established industry connections or a local reputation.
