@nathan - the suggest to friends link is gone. Only available to admins of pages. that's why u see it on your pages. some say FB took it away to force pages to advertise. not sure.
On another note - has anyone thought of merging their places page with their business page now that they won't be giving up the look of the old page layout? I haven't heard anyone mentioning this or talking about ideas of how to integrate check-ins into their social media strategy.
