This brings up an interesting but somewhat unrelated question: What is better for lead conversion...popup lightbox forms or the typical form loaded on an entirely new page?

The reason I ask is I have been seeing an increasing amount of website vendors switching to the popup lightbox forms on VDP's.

We use them very heavily in our sites

I would love to hear if anyone sees any bad things about this way of doing forms.

I definitely prefer the look of the lightbox lead forms, however I feel like loading the form on a new page will result in a higher conversion ratio. Opening the form on a new page causes the user to feel more of a commitment to fill out the form. While, opening the form in a lightbox window causes the user to have less of a commitment to the form because they can still see the VDP behind the window and click anywhere to instantly close the form.

You may argue that it is a positive that they can still see the vehicle they are interested in behind the form vs sending them to a generic form. I completely agree with this, that is why my lead forms AND confirmation pages are customized to the vehicle they initiated the lead form on.

I don't have any data backing it up, it's just my opinion. I hope I'm right because we are almost done developing our custom in-house website using this theory! Once the project is finished I will be posting the live links here on dealerrefresh to get everyone's opinion.
