Early 2006 to till the date, there is a huge debate on counting performance for no-follow and do-follow backlinks for SERP algorithm. Now the point is why I am pulling the topic once again? The simple reason is while Google confirms they are calculating 200 signals with 50 variations for their SERP algorithm and Social networks signals playing a one of the vital role!
The concept for the specification of the attribute value nofollow was designed by Google’s head of webspam team Matt Cutts and Jason Shellen from Blogger.com in 2005. Question:What is “no-follow” links? The nofollow attribute value is not meant for blocking access to content, or for preventing content to be indexed by search engines. The proper methods for blocking search engine spiders from accessing content on a website or for preventing them from including the content of a page in their index are the Robots Exclusion Standard (robots.txt) for blocking access and on-page Meta Elements that are designed to specify on an individual page level what a search engine spider should or should not do with the content of the crawled page.
Example:
<a href=”http://www.example.com/” rel=”nofollow”>book stores</a>
So no-follow links basically introduced by the Google and to reduce the spammers from the blogs and if some one do-not use
no-follow for out bound linking then the Google PageRank(In the general case, the PageRank value for any page u can be expressed as:

i.e. the PageRank value for a page u is dependent on the PageRank values for each page v out of the set Bu (this set contains all pages linking to page u), divided by the number L(v) of links from page v.) will be passed to the linking website.
Sow the points comes that how much important is PageRank for ranking algorithm? If you think about Google still high PageRank and relevant natural links are most power full one for SERP algorithm. But when Google officially confirms that Google is counting social networking links for SERP algorithm(though we all know from the beginning of 2010 Google is looking for social network links specially Twitter accounts and tweets!)

We know all the social networking links are no-follow links; though think about that Google is still counting..that means Google give a good weightage for “no-follow” links.
Another point we can see that guest blog links(author bio),blog comment links are (most of them) are “no-follow” but Search engines calculate that for SERP.So for SERP algorithm valuable “no-follow” links are one of the parameter for Google and Bing specially.
When we are getting links from a valuable valuable website and that might be “no-follow” all the search engines giving a preference for search engine ranking algorithm and its proven that if you are linking to valuable “no-follow” links much better than less valuable do-follow links.

That discussion is just for newbies. When "Open Directory Project" started, no-follow was designed for seperate groups on dmoz. When google indexed dmoz, external no-follow command was used to stop spammers. making web sites less appealing to farm for their indexing. It was brutal at first and many good content lost It's PR. That is when the Sculpting started to seperate good content linking and bad ones. Not that it failed, It absolutely has no value to use now a days. Also please clarify there isn't a do-follow link actually. NO "No-Follow" is do-follow.

There are still programmers doesn't allow robots and puts a site map and talks about SEO. You know what they say... "Trying to stop bad incoming links.." idiotic..
However, robots.txt should be used and you block indivual copy paste website to access your content,

example: www.salvage-cars-for-sale.info This website's spider searches for 17 character words or numbers to identify VIN numbers and locate the website to farm for their content. Trying to get more relevancy with the right subject but copied content.

Example:
<a href=”http://www.example.com/” rel=”nofollow”>book stores</a>

Not 100% . Don't forget about less valuable STATIC do-follow link's time factor compared to chancing valueable valuable "no-follow" link's time factor.

Also what do you think about do-follow links from a pdf file with great content on a specific subject, completed meta tags but on a less valuable website? Counts as a stand alone shared document with It's own CR? or part of the website?

I asked this because remember seeing CR (Content ranking on individual documents) calculation some where on SERP and TrustRank. If so, how do you define a Content ranking on individual document, nothing is stand alone..

Also, lets open this Content part to our Dealership and show them an example integrated to Auto Industry.

If your competitors name or certain keywords are mentioned (enough times) on your reviews. There is a really high chance to show up on those searches. So, go go go! :) Tell your customers to be more detailed on their reviews. Even some those reviews are pulled from mostly no-follow less valuable websites, they will help you rank higher.

the article is based on no follow links..and if any links do not declare as no-follow that counted as do follow..we all know that..I made this discussion specially on focus on social networks links...which is no-follow...thats why brings the points...one more thing we can predict , we can study to know the insights of search engines ranking algorithm..or chasing the brains of silliocn valley techies concept..though matt cutts says dont chase search engine algorithm..do something search engine will chase you!

yes..CR is effective signals for all the major search engines...in terms of PDF and doc files...I have confusion in terms of Bing ranking counter part..but yes Google blessing those in a good manner...another signals that is much more important video files and every search engines giving preference how many video your web sites having..

how about the GPS tags the images and videos have thru mobile devices?
now regular cams don't have that but you can add it when editing the file... So, lets go back to no-follow. Sharing a doc with videos and pictures (assuming all the media has the right tags, and GPS coordinates.) on a major no-follow blogging or broadcast media site... Are documents included in age calculation? Does it have any effect on location pages display via GPS tags? (Take a picture with your iphone or GPS enabled smart device. Transfer this to your computer as a stand alone file, email it to your secondary email and upload the emailed media to web and open it with your smart device again. It will tell you where the picture was taken..
