Is Display Dead?

Just curious to see who here is still doing traditional display (not facebook, retargeting, etc.) ?

I haven't spent money on Display in about 5 years. Is it Dead Jim?

The only display we still spend money on is retargeting. It's really the only display strategy that passes the DISC (does it sell cars?) test.

We still do both. Retargeting is much more effective, but for things like Red Tag Days we still get some regional traction on display ads.
That said, this is in Canada where the closest dealership is beyond eyesight, so you can flood your market with display ads and not have to be as concerned that everyone else might be competing for the same radius.

Most effective for us has been branded display ads that follow up on a campaign the customer has seen.
Once we know they've seen our email and engaged with it, we follow them with a similar message in different formats.
The effort is high, but the model seems to work so looking at ways to automate that better.

✨ AI Highlights

Dealers debate whether traditional display advertising still has value, with most agreeing that standard display ads are ineffective and largely ignored by consumers. Retargeting emerges as the only display strategy worth spending money on, as it reaches warm audiences with proven engagement. One Canadian dealer notes that display can still work for regional campaigns and branded follow-ups to email engagements, though it requires higher effort to coordinate messaging across formats.
