SEM Bounce rate?

What kind of bounce rate would you expect to see on a SEM campaign?

Any way to segregate out campaigns to track which campaign has a lower/higher bounce rate?

If you link your Google AdWords account to your Google Analytics account, you'll be able to see the Visits, Page/Visit, Visit Duration, Bounce Rate and more for each ad group.

In terms of an expected bounce rate it's hard to say. According to Google the average website bounce rate is 40%. But keep in mind it varies by multiple factors.

To give you a real life example, we have one campaign running now for one of our niche websites where our Google CPC Bounce Rate is 52% while our Google Organic Bounce Rate is 58%.

Perhaps some other folks will share an example or two to provide you with more useful data that you can use to set your goals and expectations.

Hope that helps :)

As Jason said there are alot of factors. I begin to look for problems and issues if a bounce rate is above 25% for overall average. Specific campaigns will throw that once in a while. As for CPC, I aim to keep that at 20% or lower preferably around 15% If you have a high bounce rate on your CPC advertising you either need to focus the message, or create a better landing page.

Link your Adwords and Analytics accounts and you will have more information than you know what to do with!

In Google Analytics you can go to Traffic Sources > Sources > All Traffic and get a quick rundown of all Sources/Mediums, - Visits - Pages/Visit - Avg Visit Duration - % New Visits - Bounce Rate

You can also select Traffic Sources > Sources > Search > Paid to filter those out as well.

Every area and market will differ and effect these numbers. Your best bet is to weigh each source against the overall average to gauge how it is performing.
