A little Widewail backstory

At the beginning of 2024, we launched our first iteration of the Voice of the Customer Report series.

At that time, we didn't have any of the following:
  • Industry-level topic benchmarks
  • Department-specific insights
  • EV vs. ICE insights
  • Topic trending over time
  • OEM rankings
  • Plain english explanations of what is going on behind the datapoints
Frankly, we didn't really know what the hell we were doing. But that's the fun of doing something new. We've spent the last 27 months developing a new way to use customer reviews at an industry level (not talking thousands, but millions of reviews) to get into the head of the dealership consumer.

Today, we're getting pretty good at it.

I'm proud to share what we have found, because I think this is genuinely interesting. This isn't thinly veiled marketing material to get you to buy Widewail. This data has standalone value. But yeah, you should buy Widewail, too.

As we've refined our process, we can now do it more frequently. In May, we launched our first quarterly version of the report. Next week, Q2 data goes live.

We analyze essentially every franchise dealership review left on Google each quarter in this report. In Q2, the total was just over 1.3M reviews. The industry is on track for a record-breaking 5.4M reviews, all of which we will capture and catalog by year end.

Some topics in Q2:
  • Current tariff sentiment
  • Pricing updates
  • Shifts in sales and service preferences
  • Surprisingly large moves in the OEM rankings
Katie and I will go through what we know on 9/4. I hope to see you there.
