The Cardinals, who pulled off the greatest recovery from the dead since Lazarus, completed one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history, winning Game 7 of the World Series with a 6-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
This is a team that was 10½ games back in the wild-card race on Aug. 25. They were still 8½ games back with 21 games left. Three games out with five to play. And four times faced elimination in the postseason.
Now, they are champions, defying all of the odds, and achieving what seemed to be impossible.
