Traffic Bump on 4.21 (AKA Mobilegeddon)???

There are higher chances that a robot from China is able to pass the server lock and spike your page views than this change making a huge change.

I think previous changes (panda/penguin) were designed to shake bad practices out of the way and that is why they affected some sites dearly.

I believe that this change will be a lot more gradual, correlated to mobile traffic growth.

When dealers ask me about moving to responsive I truly don't think that you need it "right now". Your dealer will sell the same amount of cars next month. You do needed "right now" because the change in mobile indexing will be gradual and it will become a must in 6-8 months.

A dealer noticed unusual traffic spikes on April 21st and 28th and initially suspected Google's "Mobilegeddon" mobile-friendly algorithm update, but investigation revealed the bumps were actually from referral traffic originating from a regional Honda dealer ad association campaign. Participants debated whether Mobilegeddon would have significant immediate impact, with consensus suggesting the mobile-friendly shift would be gradual rather than disruptive, and that dealers didn't need to rush into responsive design overhauls.
