What do you think of this Volkswagen scandal?

They already set aside $8 billion and their stock tanked 40% in 2 days :/ If the EPA forces a buyback I think consumers will be wary. If they issue fines and VW fixes the problem I don't think it's a big deal. It is crazy what automakers have to do to meet the CAFE standards. I read they even haul in Chevron gasoline and run tests in abnormally high temperatures to help the numbers.

This one is bad because it was intentional - it's not like this was some sort of oversight, consumers now know that Volkswagen intentionally wrote a workaround in this situation. I think this is what separates it from the other manufacturer errors that could be classified as mistakes, oversights, etc. For that reason, I think this one will cause a significant consumer trust issue with VW.
