Data Your Way?

Last 6 months only 6 results on Google (2 being from DR) the one article has a transcript of an interview. So look like it's still super new

Here is section on Data Your Way

[00:19:00] Ankit Raheja: to do some kind of a co development with them. We did it for one of our product offering called Data Your Way. It's a data product, it's not an AIML product, but that's what we did. We got their feedback, and we launched the product within a few months after working with them. After the co development phase, next came for us, the beta stage.

[00:19:25] Ankit Raheja: There we expanded our sample set to around 15 dealer groups. There's a difference between dealerships and dealer groups. One dealership group can have multiple dealerships under them. So we worked with 15 dealerships for our beta stage. And finally, We launched our product after they being in beta for for, for a few months and now the product is in GA.

Curious if any dealers have been using Data Your Way and built out their own reporting from the DMS system. Would love to learn more about it if anyone is using it!
I am in the middle of setting this up with our group. So far it has been easy to configure and schedule the exports. The CDK data team was great. Right now I'm working on unpacking the schema and finding the right combination of Table and Field names to use. Seeing a lot of useful data so far. I'll keep this thread updated as I move further along here.

How is this going Bill? Overall it sounds like it has been an easy process? We are working through using Data My Way with some dealer groups to add additional data that we don't subscribe to via Fortellis APIs (due to the data bundle structures that Fortellis has). We are trying to use Data My Way to fill a few gaps in data for each dealer group's data warehouse.

Hi Alex! I've found the process to be straightforward. The challenging part was pinpointing the specific datasets you need, as there are so many options. However, once you identify them, exporting is a breeze. I definitely recommend taking this route if you need to fill gaps.

Just a heads up
: CDK does not allow third-party IP exports. I had to configure pull-downs from my local machine, which is connected to the dealer CDK network.

Not sure if you've made further progress on this, but here's a quick update on my end:

I’ve set up daily exports to ensure we get the data we need. The process that worked best for my use case is pulling down the files, decrypting them, and then processing the datasets on AWS. I've found that combining data from CDK and our CRM has been a game-changer, providing insights into customer behavior, departmental efficiencies, and more. Highly recommend!

@Bill Hoerr thanks for the update Bill! We are working through a similar setup process with some of our dealer partners. Bit of a waiting game with CDK regarding individual dealer groups getting certified etc.. but once the dealers get it setup we will be able to add in the additional DMS data not available via Fortellis (accounting, misc. variable + fixed data points, etc.)

I will also say a few of our dealer partners aren't as "tech savvy" so setting things up like PGP keys and what not has added some additional difficulties  We then combine data sources across the board - DMS, CRM, GA4, other 3rd party data via their APIs, and other misc. flat files. All in all its been neat to see our dealer partners more or less have an open canvas in regards to data insights once everything is structured in our environment.

Sounds like you're pretty far along on your end already, but if you're interested to see what we are working on let me know. It might provide you a bit of inspiration for additional reports to build out and I promise not to try to sell you anything. ;)
