Google Places for your Dealership

Hey Eley,

What are you trying to improve on your Google Places?

#2 for: car dealership suffolk va
#2 for: used car dealership suffolk va
#1 for: buick dealership suffolk va
#1 for: GMC dealership suffolk va
#1 for: cadillac dealership suffolk va

What are you missing? Looks like you could easily run outside the rules and loose almost nothing.

I think our place page is doing fairly good but I am always looking to improve anything, I need some more pictures, and maybe dial in my info a little. My main concern is getting all 3rd party info on there correct and monitoring that. The phone thing has me guessing if I am doing the right thing or need to do something different to make sure we are getting maximum benefit from everything we can.

Your listing on Google Places will soon be updated
Dear Google Places user,

Google will soon update your listing data on our consumer properties such as Google and Google Maps to more accurately reflect the latest information we have about your business.

We use many sources to determine the accuracy of our listing data and to provide the best possible experience for business owners and consumers who use Google and Google Maps to find local information.

Below is a summary of what your listing(s) will contain once it’s updated in the next few weeks. This will be visible on your Place page and listings across Google properties, but it will not be reflected in your Google Places account:

Mercedes Benz of Hagerstown
1955 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21740, US
+1 3017332301

If the above information is not accurate, please sign in to Google Places. You may prevent any of these changes from being made on your Place page and listing by selecting "Edit", and then pressing the "Submit" button to confirm the correct information about your business.

If you submit data to Google via a feed, please ensure that the data in your feed is accurate and current. Note that you must update listing data in your feed to prevent changes from being made to the above listings.

Note that if you are an AdWords or AdWords Express customer, your ads will be unaffected by this change and will continue to display the listing information you have provided in Google Places. To manage your online advertisements, please sign into Google Places or Google AdWords

Just got it too Jeff, thanks! The phone number they are displaying in the email is wrong, so I need to fix that. And everyone needs to check this email carefully!

Yikes! Automated changes to NAP based on what they scraped from across the web... ramp up the support team, this has potential disaster written all over it :)

Please remember the importance of matching NAP on ALL listing sites. Totally agree with Eley on this one: "everyone needs to check this email carefully!"

Ryan,

This is no different than what you guys probably did at the beggingin to get your site up. You just have to start somewhere then fine tune it.

BTY- If your team could rech out to Toyotaofpuyallup.com, in Dealerrater.com they have the local Kia store's phone number.

It's really not like that Yago...

Jeff, Eley and countless other businesses out there have gone to great lengths to "claim" these pages and already updated the info. Google is assuming that their scraped data should supersede the data from the user that "claimed" the page. That is totally backwards to me. Google gets away with stuff that no other company in the world can get away with, but we keep bowing to the altar, don't we?

It's more like a website vendor grabbing a yellowpages from 2005 they found in the stockroom and swapping out phone numbers for dealers that don't tell them not to.

Thanks for the heads up. I fixed it already if you talk with them, no PIN number required ;)

Ryan, you are correct, this is "bass-ackwards" for Google to override any edits you have made when you claimed your business... I have been told that Google is completing an overhaul of Google Places in the 4th quarter of this year, are these emails the first indicator? I would be incredibly happy if Google could fix this broken system they are currently using...

I am having a hard time getting a grip on what is going on with my Google Places page. Has anyone seen any activity like this, it just took a dive around June 20th on on the bottom and then July 18th on the top, and keeps heading south?

That is around the time Google made changes to the 3rd party reviews. And I changed our number in august to a local tracking number. But other than that I keep my eyes on it, I update pictures on it and nothing else has changed.
