Google to block referrer data for logged in users

...Sadly I don't think there is any easy way to regulate what Google is doing?!

IMO, as Google squeezes it's audience, it fuels a grassroots push back. Somewhere out there, if the grassroots complaints grow high enough, Congress will step in.

This cycle of total market dominance followed with congressional action has happened MANY times before. Railroads, Steel Companies and most recently, the breakup of AT&T.

Won't be long before Google will take over MSFT's role as the most dis-liked high tech company.

Google's decision to block referrer keyword data for logged-in users sparked concern among automotive marketers about losing critical SEO measurement capabilities and being forced to rely on Google's own (paid) Webmaster Tools. While initial impact was expected to be small, participants worried the policy would eventually expand to all searches and viewed Google's practice as anticompetitive—blocking organic search data while preserving it for paid search—with predictions that excessive market dominance could eventually trigger congressional regulation similar to historical antitrust actions.
