Is there an Anti-Virus, Firewall, & Anti-Spyware software worth using over Microsoft Defender?

Virus, spyware software is useless when sales people leave
an unlocked pc that is gladly willing to help me do something.

A Firewall should really be at the switch level rather than depending on a pc.
