TIP: Build rapport to facilitate the gathering of prospect information

Thanks for sharing.

Any dealers have a transcript showcasing the use of online tools to help build transparency while gaining the appointment?

From my Chat:
[7:12:20 PM]<Blake Zweifel>and just so we are comparing apples to apples , I don't mean this condescending so don't take it that way. But i think you entered the wrong info for book value. Just so you realize that great deal it is, Kelley blue book certified preowned value is $23454 , NADA retail value is $24175

I always have vAuto up on one of my monitors when a chat comes in. I pulled that NADA value from it in the chat above. I also use it to easily pull the carfax for # of owners, clean title, no accidents etc. On my other monitor I always have our website bookmarked to the used car inventory. That lets me jump to the car of interest and scan pictures to verify common features/options that customers normally ask about in chat [sunroof, nav , Bluetooth] . These two "tools" coupled together alleviate the need to get up and find answers.

I’ve been meaning to call Steve and have him add Edmunds TMV to the vAuto value guides for our account, but my allowance doesn’t go up until I get a good report card. :( [Sarcasm....kinda.]

[9:57:01 AM]<Chris Rose>Hello, How may I help you?
[9:58:30
AM]<Customer>Yesterday, I chatted with you about the Lincoln MKX. I have
another question. I have a vehicle that I still owe about $8000 on. If I buy
this one, I would like mine to be paid off by the dealer. Is that even
possible?
[9:59:14 AM]<Chris Rose>Absolutely, When you leave the
dealership, your car would belong to Jimmy Granger Ford and you would get your
new car.
[9:59:46 AM]<Chris Rose>We would need to see and drive your
trade in to know exactly what your is worth and what we would give you for it.
Is this Connie?
[10:00:36 AM]<Customer>LOL. Yes, it is. I would
definitely need the payoff because I do not want to owe for that one and the
Lincoln, but I do understand needing to drive it and see what it is
worth.
[10:00:58 AM]<Chris Rose>What kind of trade do you
have?
[10:02:09 AM]<Customer>2006 Chevy Equinox LT with 87500 highway

says that is worth $11600 clean trade in and clean retail $14,875. Are you a
salesman?
[10:05:57 AM]<Chris Rose>My position is the internet manager
so I would assign a salesman to you when you come in. You tell me what kind you
want. :) Male or female? Old or young?

male
[10:07:05 AM]<Chris Rose>You got it! How about 24 years old, and

[10:08:07 AM]<Customer>Perfect. Is he single? LOL
[10:08:13

[10:09:13 AM]<Customer>Yay, Unfortunately he's
a little young. I'm 36, lol. Bell just rung. I'm a teacher. Heading to class.
Hope to see you and Billie Friday or Saturday.

The best policy is always honest, you have to establish report and trust with a chat customer in an informal anti-personal setting. The best way to do this is with honesty. I dont think pushing for their phone number to get them on the phone is the best approach. With todays business it is frowned upon to conduct personal business via the telephone while at work so I approach the customer with my info and let them know they can text me to make contact for an appointment. This has proven very successful and takes you out of the herd of other dealers that are just trying to get their phone number.

[12:48:12 PM]<Customer>i noticed that you have a 2008 LTZ tahoe for sale...
[12:48:26 PM]<Lenny Fly>Yes it is still available.
[12:48:49 PM]<Lenny Fly>What questions can I answer for you.
[12:49:07 PM]<Customer>What is the best price?
[12:49:41 PM]<Lenny Fly>? If you would like to make an offer I can see what we can do for you. Do you live here locally?
[12:50:19 PM]<Customer>yea i live in goose creek. Well i noticed that is has just under 60,000 miles i am looking to get one with about 45,000 or so
[12:51:08 PM]<Lenny Fly>I am priced $5000 Below NADA Retail Value on this car with all those options. The car is still under factory warranty to 100k miles.
[12:51:50 PM]<Customer>non smoking?
[12:52:31 PM]<Lenny Fly>That is correct, this is a non-smokers car.... The tires are new and it is a 1 owner clean carfax.
[12:53:06 PM]<Customer>yea from the pictures i can see it looks like it is in good shape. The only wear i see is the drivers seat
[12:54:14 PM]<Customer>Carmax has a 2008 LTZ with 48,000 miles up the road from you guys but it doesn't have the bucket seats second row.
[12:54:33 PM]<Lenny Fly>It was purchased new at Marchant Chevy and just had service done at Mcelveen on the carfax for the 50k service. The drivers seat has been cleaned since the pictures were taken.
[12:55:17 PM]<Lenny Fly>The wear is minimal and is very normal for the Chevy and GMC product, I drive one and the seat did the same thing and all I had to do was dye it.
[12:55:41 PM]<Customer>yea I currently have a 2004 LT tahoe...just wanting to upgrade
[12:56:01 PM]<Lenny Fly>Would you like to stop by and see it before you make an offer?
[12:56:56 PM]<Customer>yea i will eventually make it that way to take a look at it...i am trying to find the best deal... i have found a few a little ways away from here for cheaper with lower miles so that is always an option.
[12:57:08 PM]<Customer>do you guys move off your internet price.
[12:57:10 PM]<Customer>?
[12:58:38 PM]<Lenny Fly>Sure, I can do 31990 plus tax and tags. That is my best price, no negotiation. If that beats what you are looking at great. If not sorry but I will try to take those other ones out of the picture by showing my hand now..... My name is Lenny and I am the Internet Sales Manager if you would like to come by and see the car.
[1:00:29 PM]<Customer>Do you guys provide financing?
[1:01:47 PM]<Lenny Fly>Yes we have 20 different banks and Credit Unions available in house, The best rates are coming from Ally Financial for this vehicle because they used to be GMAC credit. Also we have had good luck recently with Heritage trust federal credit union.
[1:02:32 PM]<Customer>you might not know but what type of rate are you getting?
[1:03:56 PM]<Lenny Fly>Sorry but I cant say without seeing your credit, but If you would like I can get you preapproved if you fill out a crdit ap. at windhamselect.com.
[1:04:44 PM]<Customer>my credit is very good..
[1:05:20 PM]<Customer>i just want to try and calculate my monthly payment
[1:05:29 PM]<Lenny Fly>The best rate I have seen on perfect credit with decent money down was 2.9 last week though. That would be up to your credit though. Rates are pretty low on used cars now. They could do a 72 month term on an 08 vehicle.
[1:05:54 PM]<Lenny Fly>What was your first name just so I have a record of our chat.
[1:06:01 PM]<Customer>Josh
[1:06:19 PM]<Customer>I do have a trade in
[1:06:59 PM]<Lenny Fly>Thanks Josh, on my website there is a payment calculator for you. For your trade in I cant do an estimate without seeing it in person but if you were at carmax and got a trade quote we will honor that.
[1:10:47 PM]<Customer>I appreciate the information...you will be hearing from me. Thanks
[1:11:55 PM]<Lenny Fly>Thanks, my number is 843-860-3639. You can text me at any time to make an appointment or to ask any question. Please make an appointment with me prior to coming by so I can meet you at that location. We are open 9-7
[1:12:18 PM]<Lenny Fly>The address is 2494 Savannah Hwy just down the road from carmax
[1:12:58 PM]<Customer>10-4
[1:13:09 PM]<Lenny Fly>have a good day Josh
[1:13:33 PM]<Customer>thanks you too

Blake,

By the looks of it, you take your chat leads seriously. I like how you're ready to answer the buyer's questions right away and not waste their or your time in the process. The proof is in the pudding - you're scheduling appointments and selling cars. Nice!

TIP: Save time and improve outcomes by preparing for chat conversations in advance. Anticipate shopper questions and have the necessary tools and information up and ready to go.

Good afternoon everyone.

I find that the 5 best things that I can do to maximize my chance with a client for a sale is plainly just to be me. You do not have to pretend to be someone else your not. We are in sales for a reason, 9 out of 10 times it is because we can engage in a conversation with a stranger out of the blue and with just a make them feel comfortable. here are some tips that I follow:

1) Be Myself. IE if I need to find some common ground with them on which to strike conversation and break the ice, do it and do it fairly quickly.

2.) Do not hide anything that you think you feel is import, disclose it first and up front ( this way they don't show up and get blind sided and they feel hostile because they drove all this way and you failed to mention an import detail ect )

3) Make them feel as is they are important to you there in the chat room as is they were there right in font of you at your desk.

4) Be informative and at the same time get Basic information such ad name and number with out to much poking in prodding ( have a better chance on the phone then in a chat room to help them into the vehicle they want or need) )

5) Back to number #1 Just be yourself, treat them with dignity and respect and not like they are wasting your time. I find that most of my chats if handled properly result in a Sale.

*** This chat was on a 2011 CTS-V Coupe. Client drove 4 hours that day to pick it up.Great Guy who bought a Great Car!***

[9:04:47 AM]the car can be financed as long as you like as with any vehicle. Interest rates are going to what they are based on the credit, term, and as well the the age of the vehicle. I don't forsee any problems financing this car, Its is all going to depend upon you.

[9:10:17 AM]Ok.
[9:10:26 AM]great talk to u shortly

The number one tip for selling a car over chat, is to NOT sell a car over the chat. Instead, sell the appointment. I have a script that I go by, and it is specifically designed to capture the appointment. No one can really buy a car over chat, the will still need to see it and drive it before they buy (for the most part). So I believe the number one tip is to steer the converation to an appointment everytime.

[7:08:23 PM]<Blake Zweifel>sorry, wrong box
[7:09:32 PM]<Blake Zweifel>I have good news
[7:09:38 PM]<Blake Zweifel>it's still here! :)
[7:09:46 PM]<Blake Zweifel>would you like to come see it?
[7:10:24 PM]<Customer>Cool. My husband and I are very close to buying another one that is about 1K cheaper. Is the price flexible at all?
[7:11:51 PM]<Customer>Also, what's the going rate for financing...we have pretty rockin' credit.
[7:12:02 PM]<Blake Zweifel>send me the link so I can take it to my manager and see how similar the truck is. We are willing to be fair if we are honestly too high, but I can't discount the truck for the fun of it.
[7:13:27 PM]<Blake Zweifel>financing on Certified toyota's is 2.9% up to 60 months
[7:13:33 PM]<Customer>What that wouldn't be fun (just kidding)? I understand. The other one is a carmax car...and it has higher miles. However it's an automatic, which I know can be more expensive. Trying to find the link.
[7:14:56 PM]<Customer>It's listed on cars.com as 2010 Toyota Tacoma with 31,298 miles. The price is $14,998. So just a tad cheaper.
[7:16:49 PM]<Blake Zweifel>can you send the link? i need options, condition, carfax, certified or non certified blah blah blah lol. Finding it all myself is easier than asking you 100 questions about it. It's not that I don't believe you, I just need to know what i'm takling about when matching deals.
[7:17:37 PM]<Customer>Oh, I guess yours is an automatic too. That makes them more comparable.

[7:18:00 PM]<Blake Zweifel>sweet, thank you. Give me a second to look
[7:18:17 PM]<Blake Zweifel>lol no, the link to carmax's car. Thats mine

[7:18:34 PM]<Blake Zweifel>lol
[7:18:44 PM]<Customer>2010 Toyota Tacoma, $14,998 - Cars.com
[7:20:27 PM]<Customer>What time do you close today?
[7:20:33 PM]<Blake Zweifel>9pm
[7:21:29 PM]<Customer>Shoot. We're in DC so we probably couldn't make it by close.
[7:22:28 PM]<Blake Zweifel>Theirs has more miles + it's not Toyota Certified. The toyota cert gets you 7year /100,000 miles warranty + special financing with approved credit. My cost on it (no markup) is $500. So not even counting the miles I could be 14750 if you want to buy mine uncertified.
[7:23:26 PM]<Blake Zweifel>FYI, I might have misunderstood you, but my truck is an automatic aswell, not manual. Just making sure you knew that.
[7:23:51 PM]<Customer>Interesting. I hear ya. No chance you would be working late tonight?
[7:24:05 PM]<Blake Zweifel>what time would you get here ?
[7:24:26 PM]<Customer>I would need to mapquest it, but I think it would be right at 9 or 9:15
[7:24:35 PM]<Customer>what's the address?
[7:24:39 PM]<Blake Zweifel>i'll go ask. Where are you coming from?
