January 5th in video games: Darksiders vs. Bayonetta

2 hours into Darksiders and I am thoroughly enjoying it on the PS3. Cool armegeddon story line, lots of weapons/upgrades. So far combat has been button mashing but it looks like there are a lot of new moves/combos you can buy throughout the game. Graphics are world of warcraftish and very good.

At first glance (I only played the first two levels) of Bayonetta, it's very over-the-top sex appeal and waste-my-time-with-pointless-story cut scenes that go on for too long. Give me less animated girly show off scenes and more gameplay, please.

That said, I'm going to give it a shot because my friend highly recommends it and play through it. I'm wondering how Darksiders compares to Ninja Gaiden 2 - they sound more similar than Bayonetta.

Darksiders is closer to Zelda. You have an overworld, dungeons, and accessories that open paths to different areas and solve mediocre puzzles inside dungeons. accessories found and techniques learned in a dungeon are the key to defeating that dungeon's boss ;).

Both are action games based around killing lots of enemies. In both cases you fight heaven and hell minions acting as an outside mediator or agent of balance.

Darksiders mainly goes the tried and true route of a hardcore male figure with a larger-than-life weapon and a big name. You cast yourself as War, one of the four horsemen. Of the two, this one looks to have the most story and classic gameplay.

Bayonetta goes completely off the deep end in the other direction. She's a witch who controls time and uses her infinitely? long hair to cast spells and summon demons to kill the other demons/angels. Compared to Darksiders this game has almost zero story and relies mainly on sex appeal and over the top antics.

My personal opinion having played both in a minor respect: Get Bayonetta if you want something different. The gameplay is spectacular and some of the cutscenes will have you bragging to friends who don't play games just to see their reaction. Get Darksiders if you actually want a story in your game and love the normal hack and slash of a fantasy action game. There's nothing new, but it is well polished.

Speaking of getting more out of your gaming experience, if you're ever looking to stretch your budget, it's worth reading up on how to use bonus in melbet to see how you can grab some extra value while you're taking a break from the hack and slash action. Sometimes a little extra boost makes all the difference!

I liked both games, but for completely different reasons. Darksiders really captivates me more with its atmosphere, exploration, and sense of adventure. You want to keep playing for the story, not just for the next fight.

Bayonetta, on the other hand, is pure action. Once the combat system gets going, it's very hard to put it down. It's much faster and more complex in terms of combos, and the whole crazy style only adds to its charm.

So, in my opinion, the choice depends on your mood: if you want an epic adventure, Darksiders is it; if you want the most dynamic action with awesome combat, Bayonetta is it. Both options are great in their own way.

Automotive industry forum members step off-topic to compare two January 2010 action game releases — Darksiders and Bayonetta — discussing gameplay style, difficulty, and story depth. The consensus leans toward Darksiders as the more substantive experience, likened to a God of War clone with Zelda-style dungeon structure, while Bayonetta is seen as style-over-substance fan service similar to Devil May Cry. Members also briefly touch on Modern Warfare 2 frustrations and anticipation for Borderlands DLC.
