Why is Reynolds locking out Third Parties from their DMS systems? Are they really loosing that much add-on business or is it more technical?
Shawn, no sir. Can you shed some light on the "Higher Gear Fiasco".
The dealers create credentials and give them to a third party so that third party can access the dealer's data. So the dealer has to allow the access.... isn't that secure enough?
Reynolds now sometimes asks questions when trying to access 6910 report generator. I have found about 60 such questions.
Have these questions really prevented anyone from accessing the data?
Dealers and vendors are frustrated with Reynolds DMS implementing CAPTCHA-style security questions to restrict third-party access to dealer data, which they view as ineffective security theater that complicates integrations without meaningfully preventing unauthorized access. While Reynolds frames this as a "security update" following an apparent incident with Higher Gear, participants argue that dealer-controlled credential sharing is already secure enough, and that ADP's Open Secure Access approach offers a better model. The consensus is that Reynolds' approach is annoying and workable for now, but creates unnecessary friction without proven security benefits.
