Roger that Alex.

As a sideline to this "visitor to sales" ratio:

I've been wanting to assign a value to SEO efforts, now I can.
I've been wanting to assign a value to PPC spending, now I can.

It's not perfect, but, it's way better than a wild a** guess!

I am now working with a Super Secret PPC Consultant on a large scale PPC campaign to create and measure PPC traffic. Project is just beginning to take shape. Stay tuned!

New Stats Just in!

1,304,094 Unique Visitors
8,393 Sales
0.64% Sales p/Visitor

In other words:
In 30 days, 1.3 million visitors bought 8,393 vehicles (new and used).

-which means-
1 sale for every 156 visitors to your site

-or-
6.4 sales for every 1000 visitors to your site.

Joe, is there a noticeable difference between the smaller and larger sites percentages... For instance a site with 15,000 visitors average sales percentage vs a site with 2,000 visitors average sales percentage?

Very interesting data too, thanks for putting that survey together and sharing those stats!

Megan,

Can't breakout service, but, I've been listening to incoming website calls since 2003. Somewhere around 2005, I vividly recall being shocked at how many service calls were coming in from the web site. It all traced back to Google's improvements PLUS car shoppers were seeing the service dept online while pawing around inventory.

It was that year I slashed Yellow Pages ads by 90% I use to SELL the Verizon Yellow Pages! Glad I got out! hahaha

Well well well, this thread has been left along for almost 4 years now. Shall we start this up again and see how websites have increased conversion rates?

I'd be curious to see how the breakdown is between Domestic/Import, Major Metro/Rural, Economy/Hi-Line. Finally a breakdown of website provider. I know this brings a lot of variables BUT if enough data is collected we may see surprising results. Data January 1-June 30 should prove enough.

Who is on board?

woa, good find Grant, this is one of my favorite topics! Quality traffic produces sales.
I don't know if I'm at liberty to share our sales data, but for June across desktop and mobile: 1.88% (53.1 visitors/sale). Hi-line (Buick/GMC/Cadillac), eBizAutos, state capital.

Those numbers have been steady all year; the January-June numbers round to the exact same figure.
