Why is mobile the future?

I almost always use google search as a local yellow pages, since it's so convenient with a smartphone. Tap the phone number and make the call. Anyways, yesterday I did that and just got this pop up after the phone call (see attached image). I'm assuming it is to help police the number that is used in the local listings.

If you look at the original report from Google, it's worth noting that only 17% of their "Smart Phone Shopper" use their phone once a week. 62% of them are just people who said they use their smartphone at least once a month to assist with shopping.

It's also worth noting that the entire survey is based on 1507 people that were selected because they are smartphone shoppers.
The only real data point here is the 66% that Chad noted, and even that is only 66% of people that already own a smartphone. Doesn't include the customers who don't own a smartphone.

This 2010-era discussion explores why mobile devices represent the future of technology and advertising, sparked by analysis of Apple's iPhone 4 presentation and its multitasking capabilities. Participants debate whether Apple or Android will dominate the smartphone market, with some drawing parallels to Apple's past competition with Microsoft, while others highlight the emerging opportunity for mobile app advertising as a new engagement channel for businesses. The key insight is that mobile apps—not mobile websites—will be the future platform for user engagement and advertising, though the thread reveals significant uncertainty about which OS ecosystem would ultimately win market dominance.
