I received a lead from AutoTrader.com yesterday asking for our best price. Responded with the typical, offer best prices online, but happy to work out a deal if you like the vehicle enough to buy it, etc, etc.

Here is the response I receive in return:

Clay

OK thank you. I am shopping around for a buyer that I represent. I uploaded your offer on our website: autopitch.com/xxxx

He will let you know in 5 days if he would like to buy it. If he accepts your offer, we will collect a $150 deposit from the customer, which we keep as our referral fee. So your price will be $150 lower than what you offered us. If you are not comfortable with this referral fee, I can remove your offer from our site.

You can manage your listing and price by logging in with these details:

User Login
User: xxxxx
Password: xxxxx

If you want to learn more about our site, this video sums it up:

Thanks!

I emailed them back and told them to get lost, but seriously, does this guy have balls or what? Completely unprofessional. Any thoughts?

A dealer received a lead from AutoTrader that turned out to be from autopitch.com, a middleman service that posts dealer offers on their website and charges a $150 referral fee (deducted from the dealer's offered price) if a customer they represent makes a purchase. The dealer community overwhelmingly criticized the service as duplicitous and exploitative, particularly because autopitch concealed its fee structure and business model until after obtaining the dealer's price quote, effectively double-dipping on advertising costs dealers already pay to AutoTrader. The consensus was that autopitch's deceptive sales approach and unfavorable fee model made it an unwelcome intermediary in the automotive sales process.
