Hey guys,

I wanted what you guys think about traditional ways of marketing. I know alot of my stores sales are from the internet, how effective is those car & truck magazines and other magazines these days for the auto industry ? Personally, I find it painful looking for cars in those old things!

What do you guys think ? Is it worth the money $$$ ?

Regards, Rick S

Don't think as many folks are reading those free trader magazines you pick up at the grocery store. They reach a much smaller percentage of the buyers out there. There is a better way to do the traditional, non-internet advertising that actually reaches people when they are in their buying window.

Rick,

Each market is a lil different. There are a zillion variables, like:

  • distributors merchandising efforts (fresh, full & in hot spots),
  • # of distribution points,
  • # of cars in the paper,
  • demographics of the paper vs your inventory mix,
  • cost of the ads,
  • trackability of the ads,
  • your ability to market,
  • your physical location (i.e. inner city..to..rural)
  • and on and on...

In the end, you go with your gut and try to get feedback to track your spending. Create a special message, a coupon, a trackable phone#, or any way to get a read on what comes from the ads.

✨ AI Highlights

SlickRick questions the ROI of traditional print trader magazines for automotive marketing, noting that most of his sales come from internet channels and finding these publications outdated. While GreenLight suggests free trader magazines reach a diminishing audience, Joe Pistell counters that effectiveness depends heavily on market-specific variables like distribution, demographics, and ad trackability, recommending dealers test campaigns with trackable offers to measure actual results rather than rely on assumptions.
