The year is now 2024 and there's a new sheriff in town: www.overfuel.com -- The primary difference between Overfuel and most of these vendors is the focus on passing Google's Core Web Vitals Assessment (i.e., the basic performance standard for websites as of May 2020). Google rewards or penalizes sites for organic search ranking and Google Ads performance, and there's a direct correlation between passing the assessment and significantly better conversion rates. Automotive sites on average fail, sadly, and most dealers have no clue.

Our sites are tuned for best performance across a range of performance tools. Today it's Core Web Vitals, tomorrow it'll be something else. Our team works really hard on performance in every test, be it CWV, fully loaded time, Lighthouse, or many others. We have more control over the performance number in simulated runs than anything else, which really shows in Pagespeed Insights where our mobile scores are often over 60, despite most sites struggling to get half of that.

There will always be reasons a dealer wants a plugin or change which impacts CLS or overall performance, so while we strive to always pass CWV, there may be reasons the dealer is sure they will get more leads with changes we would deem "wrong" with respect to CWV or overall performance.

While CWV is really useful, it's tough to imagine a world where you'd be better off taking passing CWV with terrible performance scores in the 30's as many other ranking factors may be negatively impacted too, like engagement time. While CWV also has an impact on SEO ranking, some companies are making it seem like an all or nothing type deal for ranking high. There is limited to no research I've seen as of yet to point to it as the single largest ranking factor vs other known factors like domain authority or page authority. In no Google release do they seem to indicate that it's the end all be all and if you look at some of the posts in the webmasters forums, no response has been made to many people claiming it to be a minor factor.

See here from a Diamond Product Expert (Google's highest level of expertise for non-employees): https://support.google.com/webmaste...s-can-impact-immediate-loss-in-rankings?hl=en

To sum it up - we can optimize for CWV and do, but if anyone says this is your one and done thing to rank high, it would be great to see what research they have to back it up, because we have tons of information on the tried and true ways to do so.
