compatible lexmark printers in dealertrack

has anyone out there ever tried to use a Lexmark model 5255 or similar printer in Dealertrack? I was told by Lexmark rep the 5255 is same printer as the ms821 or ms823 printers that are on DT's approved list. Would rather buy local but Lexmark dealer says they cannot sell ms821. Don't want to take the chance on buying a printer that will not work in Dealertrack, but would rather not buy from DT if I can help it.

I have helped quite a few dealerships with printer issues.
So much time has been wasted by not using DealerTrack approved printers.
Especially Brother, time and time again printer companies come into dealers and sell Brother. DealerTrack throws a fit.
I'd recommend working with a local company that can get you the approved printer and don't take the dance. Worst case CDW.com or another large VAR should be able to assist with no issue.

The Lexmark M5255 is similar to the MS821/MS823, but it is not officially on Dealertrack’s approved printer list. While it might work, using MUNBYN thermal labels with it does not guarantee compatibility. For full compatibility and support, it’s safest to use a printer that’s explicitly approved by Dealertrack.

the 5255 is close to the MS821/MS823, but DT support will still treat it as unapproved if something doesn’t work or there is an issue.

DT just was built on the Lexmark send forms/logos to be cached in specific printers. Then DT just sends the text on every print job and the printer adds the overlay or logos at the printer. That’s why parts, service, and accounting still print just to get a logo’d copy they can scan and email. DT doesn’t print out or send the entire page , just the text or what you get when you use Qprint.
