Hello everybody!
I agree with previous poster, it is very interesting to watch the modification of thread started in 2009. You know, if SEO was useless, I think it wouldn't survive through 9 years.

But it hasn't only survived but also evolved. And it's really working, guys. I mean, it worked for me. I considered SEO as a fad couple of years ago and didn't want to pay some tricksters. But then I decided to Google myself and it turned out that I wasn't there. I'm not talking about the first page, my dealership didn't appear neither on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th result page. I was frustrated and then I realized that I have to do something, cuz I was just invisible for clients.

Firstly I wanted to adjust everything by myself. I'm not stupid, I'm tech-savvy, and I have some spare time during the week. Guys, don't repeat my mistakes. There are SO MUCH to learn and moreover you have to constantly track search engines updates and adjust your website accordingly. Later, I found out that normally one website is being optimized by at least 4 people: on site seo expert, off site one(linkbuilder), conten writer, smm specialist. So it is not doable by one person who has other work to do.

But it was useful experience though. Then I spent some time looking for the suitable company, which provides optimization. After some time I found Autoxloo, they develop software for dealers and also optimize their websites. I decided to try and we agreed that after 3 months i will see my dealership on the first page by 10 keywords related to the cars I sell. They kept their promise. I'm there for local search and for global as well.

Try new ways, guys. Business is tough, and automotive industry is one of the toughest in the US. We have to impove, good luck

It seems to me that marketers have split into two groups: the first group claims that there is no need to bother about a content distribution. They say: if the content is great it will spread itself. Don't invest in car dealer SEO and marketing, invest in content.

The second group advises to quit paying copywriters and concentrate on the distribution. "So what, our content is poor, only distribution matters!"

The point is none of them are right.

Neither of these approaches is beneficial alone. Both of them are incomplete without each other. Even the greatest painters died alone, barely having something to eat. Because there wasn't proper distribution of their great content (or there was no distribution whatsoever).

What to say about articles on "How to choose the best car for your wife"?

Ladies and gentlemen, who is right?

Who are these "Marketers" Casey? How about creating great content and distributing it properly. Why try to cut corners when you can do it right.

Historically, SEOs outside of the automotive industry have treated dealerships poorly (setting the wrong expectations; ripping them off; offering very little ROI, with lack of proper reporting). Dealers have become skeptical to what has been defined as "SEO," driving it into disrepute.
